Anxiety is one of the most common illnesses affecting adults around the world. In fact, 40 million adults in the US have some kind of anxiety. I’ve definitely struggled with anxiety over the years, and I never really wanted to take medication for it. While there are alternative ways to treat anxiety, most of the time, people are offered medication. 

Anxiety medication (typically Xanax) is usually only a quick fix that lasts for a few hours. You’ll feel a bit euphoric until it starts to wear off, and then you’re basically right back where you started.

You’ll have to keep taking it each day, and you’ll eventually build up a tolerance. Then you’ll need a higher dose in order to get the same effect. This is a slippery slope that can easily lead to addiction, and that concern in itself can lead to even more anxiety. 

It’s a vicious cycle. Where does it end? Is there a way to deal with anxiety or treat anxiety without medication?

The conscious mind is there to keep us safe. But through that protection, it ends up stressing us out. Many times we stress over thoughts and things that will never even come to pass.

Though anxiety can be situational, it’s very much based on the future projections that we fear will occur. The mind attempts to keep us “safe” by warning us that danger is possible. Though danger can be possible, the majority of our anxiety actually lives within the projection of it.

To get to the root, we must tap into the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind believes whatever we tell it. That is the part of our brain that we can reprogram with a more peaceful projection. We just need to get past the conscious mind, which is the gatekeeper.
